According to the team at Anglapro, when they set about designing their new range of boats they began by contemplating buyers.

Anglapro wanted hulls that would plane effortlessly with minimal holeshot; have the ability to corner comfortably and still offer stability at rest; and hulls that delivered a soft, dry ride over choppy water. This is exactly what they have achieved with the Anglapro Getaway 464 Pro.

Anyone in the market for an ideal entry-level, do-it-all family boat, for estuary, lake and bay work, should check out a Getaway. It's a fishing boat, family cruiser and watersports-tow boat rolled into one.

The Getaway is a runabout designed to be ready to go when you need to get away! This practical runabout offers plenty of protection from the weather when you need it, a big cockpit space and easy access to the anchor. She has a work bench all the way round with the side and rear deck and comfortable and flexible seating - two forward pedestal seats and a rear fold-down transom lounge.

NOTHING'S TOO MUCH

All the little things a boater needs are added as standard fitments; including bowrail, a bowsprit, windscreen grabrails, aluminium anchorwell (plumbed overboard not into the bilge), a driver's seat slide and a sounder.

"But if that's not enough for you, give us your wish list and we'll build it for you," said the builder.

Anglapro don't skimp on the structure. Solid, thick and rigid is how they build boats, so you don't ever feel limited in just how far to go exploring when its time to getaway.

PERFORMANCE & HANDLING

Unlike the other models in the Anglapro range the Getaway has full chines, as opposed to only forward spray rails (don't get me wrong, these rails work perfectly on the smaller models and deliver a dry ride), but the Getaway has a bigger hull and full chines are the go.

Like all of the Anglapro boats, the Getaway 464 Pro climbs effortlessly to plane and sliced through other boat's wakes and any small chop I could find on this "picture perfect" day, but the test boat wasn't fitted with non-feedback steering and suffered slightly from prop-steer. Again, this is easily overcome with the planned change of steering.

The 464 can turn almost in her own length and does so without giving the driver and crew the feeling that she's trying to throw you overboard.

Although this hull is rated to 70hp, I feel that is overkill, unless you constantly carry heavy loads. The 60hp Suzuki four-stroke on the test boat had more than enough power.

Driving from the seated position is the way to go on this boat, because the screen is low enough not to impede the driver's vision.

MORE THAN ENTRY-LEVEL

After spending sometime on this boat, I feel that at $28,990, she is more than an entry-level do-it-all family boat. By adding a few options you can really tart this girl up, even though, as I stated earlier, she has most of the goodies anyway.

She boasts a split windscreen (for access to the anchorwell), bowrail, cockpit grabrails, bowsprit, deep anchorwell and solid bollard - a hatch for the anchorwell would be handy, but I'm sure that's an option. There's a strong grabrail around the windscreen, a bimini top to keep the sun off, transom boarding ladder and a carpeted floor so you don't burn your feet.

HAPPY FISHOS

To keep the fishos happy, this boat features a removable rear lounge, heavily-padded coamings, a flat floor, livebait tank, underfloor 70lt-fuel tank, transom baitboard and the battery sits on a shelf up off the floor.

Generous sidepockets allow anglers to get their toes in under and the dash is large enough to house a good suite of electronics.

A couple of extra rodholders in the gunwales would be handy, as would a rocket-launcher rod-rack behind

the bimini to keep the rods from being under foot, but again these are all options… with an Anglapro, it's your call.
