GIANT PAPUAN BLACK BASS CATCH SETS NEW WORLD RECORD
Fishing lure giant Rapala reports that an angler named Jason Yip reeled in a monster PNG black bass (Lutjanus goldiei, the Papuan black snapper) and set a new All Tackle world record in the process.
Fishing the Kumimaipa River in Papua New Guinea on July 30 2012, Yip hooked into a huge Papuan black snapper (Lutjanus goldiel) that tipped the scales at 20.87kg (46lb), besting the existing International Game Fish Association record of 19.1kg (42lb 5oz) caught back in 1992.
The record haul didn’t come without a fight, however, with Jason battling the before claiming his prize. Rapala says the big bass was lured with a Rapala Super Shad Rap (BSH Blue Shiner).
Once all necessary weights and photos were taken, Yip released his catch so it could head off and grow even bigger.
