NEWS - 2012 Luhrs Billfish Shootout

Anglers and boating spectators are set for an exciting weekend as marlin numbers peak ahead of the Luhrs Billfish Shootout at Port Stephens, NSW, February 18-19, 2012.

The event, now in its eighth year, has attracted around 100 teams comprising over 400 competitors vying for lucrative cash prizes. A $10,000 winners’ cheque courtesy of BlueWater Power Yachts will go to the team who tags and releases the most marlin during the two day competition. The winner of the Tag & Release event will also earn eligibility to enter the Offshore World Championships in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, with cash and prizes awarded to runners-up to 10^th place.

Meanwhile, Isuzu Australia will offer $10,000 to the crew who hauls in the heaviest marlin weighing greater than 150kg in the Heaviest Marlin Category. Prizes for junior competitors and for merit and hard-luck stories are also up for grabs.

Weekend markets and activities on the foreshore will coincide with the event and include the Classic and Veteran Motorbike run and show. Luhrs Billfish Shootout are proud supporters of Camp Quality Newcastle.
