First offshore artificial reef launched in Sydney

The NSW Government has deployed the State’s first offshore artificial reef off the coast of Vaucluse, in Sydney.

The structure stands 12m high and weighs approximately 42 tonnes, and was lowered into the ocean at a water depth of 38m. It is located 1.2km off The Gap at Vaucluse, and 1.9km off South Head.

Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, says the reef should attract fish species such as snapper and yellowtail kingfish, and should improve catch prospects for recreational fishers in Sydney.
