Offshore artificial reef for Sydney

Offshore Artificial Reef For Sydney

The construction of the first offshore artificial reef in NSW will begin in the next few weeks off the coast of Sydney.

Standing 12m tall and weighing approximately 42 tonnes, the giant steel structure will be the first offshore reef to be designed and constructed in Australia. It is the first of three offshore artificial reefs planned for NSW over the next five years.

The reef will be located 1.2km off The Gap at Vaucluse and 1.9km off South Head, and is expected to attract a range of fish species including snapper and yellowtail kingfish. It’s due for completion by Christmas this year.
