Merimbula fishermen show their generosity

Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club recently held its annual fishing competition in aid of the local hospital. The Gala weekend has been run by the club since 1936 and is believed to be the oldest competition of its kind in the country.

Entrants competed for prizes donated by local businesses, submitting their catch to an auction held in the grounds of the clubhouse. This year more than $2000 will be donated to the Pambula Hospital from the auction, with a crowd of locals and visitors bidding briskly for 80 bags of fish.

Club president Shane Mayberry said 30 prizes had been given to entrants, who included many holiday makers to the southern NSW community. Local boat dealer Merimbula Mowers and Marine showed huge generosity by donating a 4m Stacer with 15hp Yamaha motor for a raffle, won by Tom Slavin from Victoria.
