Boat Review - Yamaha WaveRunner 2016 jetski
A new marine engine will revitalise the Yamaha WaveRunner range for 2016, when the lighter, more powerful TR-1 powerplant breathes new life into the popular range of PWCs.
The new 1049cc three-cylinder TR-1 engine comes in at 26kg less than its predecessor, promising better performance (13 per cent more horsepower) and increased fuel efficiency for owners.
This is the first time in more than a decade that Yamaha has upgraded the engine in its VX range, but follows a successful hull and deck redesign that took place this year.
The TR-1 engine will be found in Yamaha’s flagship VX Limited model along with the VX and VX Deluxe, all of which will benefit from the new lightweight motor that sits lower in the WaveRunners due to its new smaller size.
By lowering the centre of gravity, Yamaha’s engineers expect the NanoXCel hulls will be able to wring every drop of performance from the TR-1 engines.
The WaveRunner VX Limited is easily identified by bold red and black graphics, and also scores four pull-up cleats, a redesigned towing eye and chrome badging.
This Yamaha WaveRunner also features Yamaha’s Cruise-Assist (similar to cruise control), No-Wake Mode (for towing toys) and RiDE dual throttle system for unmatched safety (a left-hand lever helps control reverse and emergency stops).
Also returning to the Aussie Waverunner lineup in 2016 is the race-ready FZR SVHO (pictured right).This muscle craft is powered by Yamaha’s 1.8lt Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) engine – the largest capacity motor in any PWC on the market.
The FZR tips the scales at just 359kg, due to the lightweight NanoXcel2 hull and deck, and matches aggressive performance with aggressive lines on the carbon-look hood.
