Bass boats and tournament fishing boats are a popular sector of the market that continues to find fans locally.
The blend of high-speed hulls with modular angling platforms and enough storage to swallow a tackle shop means they’re suited to a range of fishing boat styles and destinations around Australia, despite their US origins.
G3 Boats is one of the larger manufacturers of aluminium fishing and pontoon boats in the States, where they are owned by the giant Yamaha Marine company. And now G3 Boats Australia has brought the range to our shores.
Among G3’s flagship models is the wide-bodied Eagle Series and of these, the Talon 19DLX is the standout – more than 6m of sleek fishing machine.
The all-welded aluminium hull provides a stable casting platform with its roomy 2.19m beam, while a sharp bow entry provides chop-splitting ride in open water.
Given G3’s links with Yamaha outboard motors, these low-slung bullets are often paired with VMAX SHO (Super High Output) outboards and the performance will have you pressed back into the helm seats – hard.
The hull employs injected closed-cell foam to dampen any water noise at rest or underway and when it comes time to fish, your options are limitless.
The individual helm chairs seat three anglers across (and one in the stern), with the centre unit folding away to create a path aftward.
Removable fishing chairs can be slotted into both the stern and bow casting platforms and your biggest problem might be remembering which of the myriad lockers your gear is stored in.
Along with two lockable rod boxes and two large storage compartments in the casting deck, there’s more tackle storage in the stern, plus a cooler and a 125lt livewell.
A head-turning vinyl wrap completes this top-notch package, delivering what could be considered a natural evolution of the common bass boat.
