Mere months after hitting the water, the Robalo Cayman 226 bayboat has been recognised as a 2014 ‘Top Product’ by Boating Industry magazine in the United States.

The print and online publication awards recipients based on factors such as innovation, impact on the industry and how they have advanced their category – and the bayboat range has proved popular with more than just magazine editors, already becoming a bestseller for Robalo.

The Robalo Cayman 226 is the middle-sized model in the three-boat Cayman series that marks Robalo’s entry into the increasingly popular bayboat fishing arena.

Bayboats are defined by a substantial hull, with elevated fore and aft platforms that flank a tall centre console.

Deeper and more capable in exposed conditions than a bass boat, the console hints at the stand-up driving position favoured by pilots of this style of craft, both for comfort and the ability to read the water ahead.

The Robalo Cayman 226, with its dry-riding freeboard and variable deadrise hull, provides fishos with a safe and smooth ride to their favourite locations and doubles as a great dayboat for general family and fishing duties.

Scott O’Hare of Robalo Australia said the first Robalo Cayman made its debut in Australia at the 2014 BIA Melbourne Boat Show in June.

“I have driven a Cayman 206 in the US and was amazed at the soft, dry ride and stability at rest,” said O’Hare.

“The new Caymans tick a lot of boxes for anyone considering a bass boat but wanting to do more than just flat-water fishing.

“We know Aussie and Kiwi anglers will be impressed with the new concept and we expect the Cayman series to be a strong part of the Robalo line-up,” he said.

Highlights of the Robalo Cayman 226 include three 120lt livewells, including one in the bow casting platform, wide walkable gunwales and the rare luxury of a walk-down private head, located within the centre console.
