Morningstar Boats. They look like fibreglass but are made from alloy.

Morningstar Boats

Here at TrailerBoat

HQ we are treated to loads of firsts. Some first impressions live up to expectations while others fail to raise an eyebrow despite an obvious investment in blood sweat and dollars. So imagine the surprise of
TrailerBoat editor Angelo SanGiorgio when he opened up a folder of images our young photographer Jack Murphy had sent of a boat fresh to our shores, the Morningstar 460 Angler.

At first glance he was tempted to call our fishing imp and verbalise him for shooting the wrong boat. Looking at it from rear 3/4, it looked decidedly “glassy”. Flicking through the rest of the images in the folder gave only the slightest hint that this was actually an alloy rig.

Morningstar Boats, distributed through Sakana Marine, seems to have delivered on a promise made to us a year ago when blurry photocopies of an interesting hull were sent in. The literature, simply and carefully written in proper English spoke of an alloy “Hydro Hull” that would mimic the appearance and performance of fibreglass. It was welded by robots out of military grade alloy and endowed with an origami-like substructure for strength.

Now we’ll have to hold our enthusiasm on how it rides, but so far it certainly lives up to things in the looks department. We’ve just been advised that a motor’s about to be fitted and we’ll get it wet as soon as Qantas can reserve a seat to Sydney.

In the meantime, visit www.morningstarboats.com and see what you think.
