NEW YAMAHA F200F OUTBOARD ANNOUNCED

Yamaha has revealed details for its upcoming F200F outboard. Said to be the lightest 200hp four-stroke on the market, the new engine is slated for an Australian release in March 2013.

According to Yamaha, the new F200F features a 2.8lt DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design that is said to take advantage of the efficiency and weight of a four-cylinder configuration. Variable camshaft timing has been added to the design, and Yamaha says that at 227kg the F200F is the lightest 200hp four-stroke on the market.

The new F200F features Yamaha’s patented Shift Dampener System (SDS) currently found in the Yamaha 4.2lt V6 range. This system utilises a splined rubber hub, which is intended to absorb the force created when an outboard is shifted into gear. According to Yamaha, the result is smooth, virtually noise-free shifting in and out of gear for greater durability and more pleasant operation.

Yamaha says the F200F will be available in Australia in March. A second “G” variation will be available in mid 2013. The F200G will have the same as F200F, with the addition of drive-by-wire digital controls, plus the ability to connect to Yamaha’s High Definition colour display.
