Western Port development pier delayed

Parks Victoria has announced that although delayed, the $2m upgrade to the Flinders Pier, in Western Port, Vic, is now due for completion in June 2011.

The upgrade will see separated pedestrian and vehicle access to a new 4.5m-wide, 200m-long section of the pier.

The Parks Victoria ranger in charge of the upgrade, Phil Fowler, said the delay was caused through a contractor needing to source alternative equipment to successfully drive the piles for the new section into place.

“I’d like to thank the commercial and sea pilot operators for their patience and understanding about the need to restrict access to the pier for approximately four weeks,” he said. The pile driving works will be completed in May.
