Hydra-Sports fibreglass fishing boats head Down Under
Legally trailerable models from the US-made Hydra-Sports Boats range — the premium brand previously owned by the stricken Genmar group before it got acquired by MasterCraft Boats in the US — will soon be available in Australia. The move follows MasterCraft Australia’s announcement that it had acquired local distribution rights.
According to Ronnie Arenson, from MasterCraft Australia, the trailerable range of fibreglass fishing boats counts four models ranging from a 19 to a 25ft model. Variants include walkarounds, centre-consoles and the multi-purpose “dual-console” crossover model.
Larger models in the range have also been available in Australia for some time but according to Arenson this is the first time that the smaller, legally trailerable range has become available locally through authorised dealers.
Be aware that they don’t come cheap. Being a premium-grade brand, the entry-level model in the trailerable range —a Hydra-Sports Boats Baysports 190 package with a Verado 150 and a decent amount of options — starts from around $40,000.
However, you could argue that it’s very much a case of you get what you pay for. Many of the manufacturing processes behind these boats use the same staff and expertise behind brands like Boston Whaler, Sea-Ray, Cobalt and many more.
