Tohatsu Outboards extends power-tilt choice

Tohatsu has given its compact, 20hp four-stroke engine power-tilt on both its electric-start tiller and forward control models. The company says this engine is one of the smallest available with power-tilt.

Introduced to replace the 18hp unit in 2009, the engine now has an improved air silence system and a tuned intake to reduce dB levels and give better holeshot performance. The tiller-steer version has also acquired a forward gearshift mechanism and “a simple but effective” friction lever.

The 20hp engine is available in 15, 20 or extra-long 25-inch versions.

The engine maker will also introduce new 4, 5 and 6hp four-stroke models in 2011. Improvements include a new front-mounted shift lever, a longer tiller-handle, a front-mounted fuel tank for easier refilling, a larger carry-handle and rear-grip. and a new cowl and decal design. Options include a quick-connect flush device.

The 6hp engine is available with a 15, 20 and 25-inch shaft (in the Sail Pro version), as well as a 5amp charging system and a high-thrust propeller.
