NSW Maritime dispatches aid to flooded areas

NSW Maritime has dispatched three boating safety officers and three vessels to the flood emergency at Wagga Wagga.

NSW Maritime chief executive Steve Dunn said NSW Maritime was pleased to be able to assist.

“Boating safety officers McKenzie, Carr and Talbot have reported to the Emergency Operations Centre for the Wagga response,” he said.

“The officers have been given an aerial inspection of the area with the Westpac Helicopter and have begun a vehicle based inspection with Police to confirm potential launching sites and identify any hazards in the area.

“These Boating Safety Officers will now work with Police and emergency services to help keep the community safe.”

Dunn said people were advised to keep off flood affected waterways unless absolutely necessary.

“Boating activity should only resume once conditions abate. Extreme caution will be required due to the potential for new hazards such as flood debris and snags,” he said.
