Marine sparkies needed in Melbourne

Electricians and plumbers are two kinds of tradies we can’t do without. Most of us lack the knowledge to repair a busted power grid, and no one who isn’t being paid for it wants to stick their hand down a toilet.

Of all the things you can’t do without, however, electricity is the most important. Without power you can’t watch or listen to the footy. You can’t even speak to anyone if they’re not in the same room.

Where is this insane ramble leading? No idea. But we can tell you that Melbourne’s Nautek Marine Services is looking for two electrical fitters, mainly because plumbers are less useful on a boat and wouldn’t know 12V from a book of matches. But let’s get back to the point. Relative to the opportunity at hand, Nautek says marine experience would be an advantage (hardly surprising really) but isn’t actually necessary because the company will fork out for the appropriate training.

Successful applicants will show good hands skills (Nautek says nothing about foot skills), attention to detail, and the ability to work in a team environment. Ongoing service courses and interstate travel are options — which reminds us of that old saying: “If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” We don’t know why it reminds us of that old saying, but there you go.
