Redcliffe to host superboats this weekend

The town of Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, will host Round 4 of the Offshore Superboat Championships over the weekend of September 18 and 19.

The action starts on Friday afternoon when the offshore teams land in the pit area at the Scarborough Boat Harbour. There they will set up their boats for Saturday morning scrutineering, when the public can freely enter the pit area and inspect the racing cats and meet the racers. Then the real action starts at 2pm with a pole position shootout on the waters off the Redcliffe foreshore.

Sunday’s race proper begins with a sighting lap around the course behind the start boat at 11:45am. The one-hour race commences from the start flag at around midday.

Only a few races are left in the Offshore Superboat Championships series and some teams urgently need a win to keep their finals hopes alive, such as The Good Guys. Chris and Brendan Frier rolled the Supercat 1050hp at the previous round in Townsville during the pole position shootout, but the craft is now repaired and ready for action.

This weekend will see boats racing in four different classes: Class1; Supercat 1050hp; Supercat 600hp; and Supercat 400hp.

The organisers gratefully acknowledge the support from Moreton Bay Regional Council. Visit www.superboat.com.au for more information.
