New MerCruiser Packs A Punch

The new Mercury MerCruiser 8.2lt big block marine engine is now available, and its makers say the powerplant offers better power and mid-range acceleration, plus lower emissions and improved fuel economy.

The naturally-aspirated engine achieves better power in part through the adoption of new aluminium cylinder heads, and was produced with the help and expertise of Mercury Racing’s engine specialists.

The new powerplant is available in two guises — the 380hp 8.2 Mag and the 430hp 8.2 Mag HO — and both are available in either sterndrive or inboard formats. The engine replaces Mercury MerCruiser’s 496 engine, comes with a catalyst and runs on standard unleaded fuel. Despite its high performance, Mercury MerCruiser says the engine’s carbon monoxide emissions are comparable to those of a diesel engine.

The Mercury MerCruiser 8.2 is also compatible with a range of MerCruiser options, including the Axius, SmartCraft, SeaCore and Guardian systems. Visit www.mercurymarine.com.au for more information.
