Fancy A Boating Career?
The Noakes Group, a long-established boat yard, rigging and marine maintenance operation, is currently taking applications for up to 12 apprenticeships across its Sydney, Newcastle and Nelson Bay outlets through its Noakes Youth program.
The Noakes Group began as a garage rigging business over 30 years ago. Today the business operates six boat and ship yards along Australia’s east coast, plus a fleet of ferries and hospitality ventures in New South Wales and Tasmania.
Due to the diverse nature of the business, Noakes apprentices can look forward to numerous opportunities to cross over into different areas of the marine industry, from timber boat building and dealing with high tech composites, to gaining their Deckhand certificate or accruing time towards their Master Class 5 certificate, the latter aboard the fleet of Rosman ferries that operates on Sydney Harbour.
According to the managing director for the Noakes Group, Sean Langman, the Noakes Youth program underlines the firm’s commitment to the future health and prosperity of the Australian marine industry. “Noakes’ apprenticeship program has been in place for 20 years and as market leaders we continue to invest in the marine industry’s future, starting from the ground up,” he said.
