We Don't Like Flops
You probably haven’t (yet) heard of Ocean Max Marine. That’s because this new Gold Coast-based boatbuilder made itself known at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, where it displayed its first boat, the Ocean Max Offshore 24 — a 24ft (7.3m) fibreglass offshore fishing machine that the manufacturers say is based on a completely original hull.
The idea behind the Ocean Max Offshore 24 was conceived over three years by shipwrights Max Watts and Jason Wellington. They wanted a high-end offshore fishing rig that would remain legally trailerable, and which used a hull that was their own idea.
The result is a 20° variable deadrise hull with generous freeboard that, according to the guys at Ocean Max, “gives one a sense of security, stability and safety, even in rough conditions.” In other words, this thing was made for the long run. Towing weight is reportedly under 3000kg and the boat is rated to carry up to eight people. It has a massive 500lt fuel tank.
Selected standard items include 120lt freshwater capacity with a transom shower and sink; plenty of storage for all that tackle; two killtanks and a plumbed livebait well; a big console-dash for all the electronics; a large storage or standing area that can accommodate an electric toilet and holding tank; and much more. There’s loads of space for fighting fish, and of course there’s a generous options list.
The damage? Around $129,900.
