Safe boating on show at Sanctuary Cove

SAFE BOATING ON SHOW AT SANCTUARY COVE

Boating regulations in NSW will be the focus of NSW Maritime’s stand at the 2010 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, NSW Maritime North Coast Regional Manager James Green said today.

For the four days of the show, from May 20-23, NSW Maritime’s display will promote boating safety, and awareness of boating rules and regulations that apply in NSW.

“It’s critical NSW Maritime gets its message out because of the large number of people from south-east Queensland who go boating on the northern rivers and coastal waters of NSW,” Green said.

“Visitors to the NSW Maritime stand have an opportunity to speak to boating safety officers and customer service staff about NSW marine safety regulations,” he said.

“Safety themes include lifejackets, speed/wash, alcohol, and the hazards of boat propellers.

“The central theme is ‘You’re the Skipper, You’re Responsible’. The skipper of every boat is responsible for the safety of their vessel and the people on board.

“The NSW Maritime stand has the latest safe boating information and publications, marine activity packs as giveaways for the kids, and competitions throughout the show offering prizes such as lifejackets.

“It’s also an opportunity for NSW Maritime to check out industry innovation and developments ahead of the Sydney International Boat later this year.”

NSW Maritime’s display is located at Stand 95 in Pavilion A at the Sanctuary Cove marine village, in a precinct with Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Marine Safety Queensland. Show opening hours are from 9am to 5pm daily from Friday 20 May to Sunday 23 May inclusive.
