SUZUKI ANNOUNCES NEW FOUR-STROKES
Suzuki has announced the launch of its new generation DF40A and DF50A four-stroke outboard motors at the recent Miami International Boat Show.
These high-performance engines are said to boast a host of technical features that give them increased fuel efficiency and performance. The motors will use Suzuki’s Easy Start System, allowing the driver to automatically start the engine by turning the key once, while Suzuki’s Lean Burn Control technology makes full use of sensors monitoring engine performance and ambient environmental conditions.
Using this input, Lean Burn Control is said to accurately predict engine requirements to provide the fuel-injection system with the correct air and fuel mixture, delivering greater fuel efficiency.
Suzuki said initial tests have shown that these two new generation outboards use 23 per cent less fuel than the current 40 and 50 models, and that the savings are mainly in the cruising range.
Both new outboards are based on Suzuki’s in-line three-cylinder dual-overhead cam (DOHC) 12-valve engine, with a high-efficiency air-intake system that comes into effect in the high rev range. Suzuki said its engineers reported that the new DF50 is six per cent faster in its speed, and 26 per cent quicker in acceleration than the current Suzuki models. They have 941cm³ of displacement.
These engines also feature Suzuki’s maintenance-free oil-bathed timing chain, said to be the first time this feature has ever been offered in the 40hp and 50hp horsepower class.
The compact size and light weight of the new DF40 and DF50 make them an ideal power match for a wide range of boats, including pleasure boats, fishing boats, small RIBs, and aluminium boats. The new outboards are said top be especially suited for entry-level boating.

The new engines should be available in Australia and New Zealand around August 2010.
