FIBRELITE OFFERS ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL TO GLASS AND ALUMINIUM
A West Australian boatbuilder says it is offering boaties a readily accessible alternative-material to fibreglass and aluminium trailerable hulls.
Perth-based Fibrelite Composite Trailerboats produces a centre-cab and a range of runabouts made from composite foam sandwich materials. These materials, says Fibrelite, have been commonly used in elite performance vessels like ocean-racing yachts, but have not taken off in the small boats market due to their high cost.
According to Fibrelite, composite material hulls will appeal to cost-conscious boaties because of their lower running costs. Composite material hulls weigh less than comparable fibreglass and aluminium hulls, which means they require a smaller and typically less-expensive motor to provide the same level of performance.
Lighter hulls also require smaller tow vehicles, which means a lower fuel bill on the water and while towing. Trailers can also be smaller and less costly.
Fibrelite Composite Trailerboats has previously won the 2006 and 2008 Western Australian Boat of the Year awards. The company was also a finalist in the Australian Marine Industry Boat of the Year 2008 award.
