Dave “Nugget” Downie unveils latest project boat

DAVE "NUGGET" DOWNIE UNVEILS LATEST PROJECT BOAT

Queensland fishing identity and 4BC radio commentator Dave “Nugget” Downie recently unveiled his latest project at Brisbane’s Northside Marine.

Downie had teamed up with Honda Australia to put together this latest project, which started life as a 16 year old fibreglass hull. He says it was first gutted, then reinforced, after which custom storage was added, including livebait tanks, killtanks, and other functional features. It was then repowered with a Honda BF150 outboard.

Nugget said he couldn't wait to get his new boat on the water and put it through its paces. “Set-up with everything I need for my fishing interests, the powerful and reliable Honda BF150 was the only outboard choice, as far as I was concerned — nothing else came close.”

The BF150 is based on the same engine that powers the Honda Accord.

The engine, according to Honda, incorporates a unique set of exclusive technologies that provide increased power across the entire rev range, with a power-to-weight ratio that is said to rival two-stroke engines in the same class.

The BF150 also features Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC™), which was originally developed for Honda's high-performance sportscars.

Honda says the system ensures smooth, stable idling with an even further reduction in fuel consumption, while the increased valve lift at high revs broadens the torque curve and is said to provide incredible top-end power.
