Lake Mulwala Power festival this weekend
Power boating’s Dean “Superman” Gleeson is leaving nothing to chance in his quest to become the Australian Power Boat Champion next weekend when he competes at the Lake Mulwala Power festival.
Kryptonite is Gleeson’s Blown Alcohol Displacement (BAD) boat of choice, capable of speeds up to 240kph (150mph), and the 21ft boat’s hull and planing surface have undergone major modifications over the winter. Already Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and the Australian Power Boat Association are predicting their best Lake Mulwala power yet, with over 60 confirmed entries. The on-shore component is also said to be fantastic, including displays by the Sea Craft Syndicate Association, classic wooden powerboats, and model boats. Plenty of craft will also be exhibited on the bank.
Exhibitors will have stands with skiboats, marine gear, fishing equipment and market stalls, while children’s entertainment should keep little ones happy between races. The Mulwala Water Ski Club Show Team has also promised to perform some amazing feats.
The Lake Mulwala Power festival opens this Friday, November 27, at the Mulwala Water Ski Club. Drivers and fans are welcome to meet at La Porchetta restaurant, and the Yarrawonga foreshore opens at 9am the next day for practice. Qualifying and racing kicks off at 11am.
A racer’s party will be held on Saturday night at the Mulwala Water Ski Club. Sunday racing starts at 10.00am followed by presentations and the award ceremony back at the Mulwala Water Ski Club.
