Melbourne Leisurefest opens today
The 2nd Annual Melbourne Leisurefest opens today, billed by the organisers as “the latest in boats, RVs, camping, fishing, 4x4 and accessories from all of the leading brands.”
Held at Sandown Racecourse, the event will showcase some of the best new boats from both sides of the Tasman, including Victoria’s three biggest boat retailers – JV Marine World, Avante Marine and Leon and Paul Savage’s Streaker Boats.
Just some of the boats to look out for include the latest Haines Signature 602F; the new Bayliner 175; the new Fi-Glass Cavalier from New Zealand; the Quintrex 420 Dory (also the major prize); and the latest Stingray Boats out of the United States.
One unusual attraction sure to turn heads is the Boatavan, a caravan designed by engineer and fisherman Theo Hass that will fully accommodate (rather than tow) a decent sized boat and trailer.
Aspiring boaties will also get the opportunity to try out for their licenses, courtesy of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association’s license training sessions, while a host of fishing tackle, boating accessories and equipment will keep everyone busy.
Streaker Boats has kindly put up the main prize, a Quintrex 420 Dory boat valued at $14,500 including a Yamaha four-stroke 30hp engine and Telwater trailer. The boat comes equipped with rodholders, safety kit and 12 months registration for boat and trailer.
Other prizes include a Jardine Tent that sleeps nine, and a Dune Out Back Swag, both courtesy of Anaconda.
Boaters who like to hit the road can also check out TrailerBoat’s sister magazine Caravan World (Stand 36B).
The 2nd Annual Melbourne Leisurefest is a joint effort by the Caravan Trade & Industries Association of Victoria (CTIAV), the Boating Industry Association (BIA) of Victoria, and the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC).
The event runs from 10am to 5pm daily, from October 1-4, at Sandown Racecourse, Princes Highway, in Springvale (Melway reference 80 C10). Admission is 12$ for adults and $10 for pensioner and Government senior card holders. Children under 15 may attend for free if accompanied by an adult. Parking at the venue is free.
