Get ready for the Bundy Thunder
In less than a fortnight dozens of powerboats from around Australia will descend on Bundaberg to compete in Qld’s biggest powerboat race spectacular, the Wide Bay Australia Bundy Thunder.
More than 80 boats will compete at Sandy Hook on the weekend of November 7 and 8, following a record number of nominations. Classes include unlimited displacements, 6lt injected and carby, 5.2lt, the event’s largest ever field of hydroplanes, 25hp, and juniors. No less than 13 formula powerboats in the F1 and F2 categories will also compete.
Teams from every State are represented, with some making the two day road trek from as far as Perth. 36 races are planned per day, with major trophy races held on each day.
Visitors are encouraged to check out the display of boats and enjoy the welcome party, on the opening Friday afternoon at 5pm at the Brothers Sports Club. Drivers will be on hand to meet and greet, and visitors are encouraged to take photos, and check out the paint jobs and engines. Entry to the Friday is free to all.
The welcome party will then follow with entertainment, meals, and driver interviews on stage by the ladies from the Bundy Thunder quest entrants.
Visitors are also reminded that some fully catered corporate marquee tickets are still available in the exclusive riverfront area (bookings and pre-payment essential).
MORE THAN RACING
To keep little ones happy, the organisers have arranged for activities like candle making and laser skirmish sessions – including a full combat field setup and an arsenal of guns. Missions take around 10-15 minutes to complete and cost $5 per mission.
To keep the bigger ones happy, an AC/DC signed guitar is up for grabs in the Thunderstruck raffle, while ThunderCat 1770 racing will perform some spectacular high speed boating tricks.
Other sites of interest around Bundaberg include the new Hinkler Hall of Aviation, and the Bondstore, better known as the Home of Bundaberg Rum. Special vouchers will be available for Bundy Thunder adult visitors.
Admission over the two days of racing is $20 per person per day (pay at the gate). Children under 12 may enter for free.
