Tournament Boats with 200hp E-TEC outboard motors

Review: Evinrude E-TEC 200 G1 vs G2 Outboard Motor

For this comparison the crew tested two near-identical Tournament 2000 fibreglass fishing boats. Both boats were fitted out via Cranbourne Boating Centre, one of Australia’s longest-running Evinrude E-TEC outboard dealerships.

One package was equipped with a new G2 200hp Evinrude E-TEC High Output outboard with a 17in three-blade stainless steel Rebel propeller; the other had an Evinrude E-TEC G1 200hp High Output powerplant. Both boats were loaded with the same amount of fuel and were run over a variety of conditions, heading out via Victoria’s Patterson River and onto Port Phillip Bay.

How do they compare?

The working range figures revealed some amazing results. To put it simply, the 200hp E-TEC G2 outboard motor is capable of travelling nearly twice the distance of the G1 on a litre of fuel in the working rev range (up to 2.1 km/L vs 1.1 km/L). In fact, we found an amazing figure of 2.3 km/lt for the E-TEC G2 travelling at a brisk 41km/h and 3250rpm. This represents huge fuel savings for all boating activities.

The torque curves are undeniable. They come from internationally recognised standards and reveal the real truth of the enormous mid-range power. There are undoubtedly reduced emissions through technology and obviously if you are burning less fuel, a reduction in emissions and environmental impact must follow.

No matter how you say it, the savings are huge and the increased torque gives impressive overall appeal with greater power and efficiency.
