New Garmin echoMAP sounder
Garmin marine has released four new sounder / plotter / GPS combos aimed at freshwater, estuary and inshore boaters. The Garmin echoMAP dv/sv series combines ClearVü sonar, cartography and — according to Garmin — offer the most accurate GPS in its class.

All four Garmin GPS echoMAP models feature HD-ID sonar and DownVü scanning sonar to provide underwater definition in shallow and deep water. Scanning the water column for bottom structure such as reef and drop-offs, as well as identifying thermoclines, baitfish and target fish, DownVü delivers what Garmin describes as “a near photographic view of what’s below the boat, as well as offers excellent target separation in both freshwater and saltwater”.
Garmin DownVü is sid to provide a finer, concentrated sonar signal to see structure more clearly and helps anglers recognise variations in weed growth and bottom composition/hardness.
The two larger Garmin GPS models have built-in SideVü scanning sonar, which scans the water up to 150m either side of the boat.
The Garmin echoMAP range comes pre-loaded with BlueChart g2 Australia and New Zealand coastal charts. All echoMAP dv/sv units also incorporate 5Hz GPS antenna, which updates location and heading five times per second. A microSD card slot provides expandable memory for additional map purchases such as BlueChart g2 Vision.
All Garmin echoMAP dv/sv combo units are ready to install straight out of the box with the included all-in-one transducer, and come with a quick-release tilt/swivel mount for easy head unit removal/storage.
Finally, all Garmin units support 50/200kHz and 77/200kHz Minn Kota and MotorGuide trolling motor transducers.
