PRODUCTS - ACR AQUALINK™ PERSONAL LOCATOR BEACON
The AquaLink™ is a GPS-based PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) that greatly increases the user’s chance of survival by transmitting a 406MHz signal that can be traced to within 100m.
The AquaLink™ PLB is small enough to be easily carried in a pack or pocket, and it can be worn on deck, at the helm, in quarters, or on a lifejacket. It will float if accidentally dropped overboard, and it has an LED strobelight to attract attention.
A clever feature is its self-test capability that checks the functionality of the battery voltage and power, and the 406 MHz transmission. It has a built-in GPS acquisition test mode that allows the user to test the unit’s GPS functionality up to 12 times over the life of the battery.
Once activated, an ACR AquaLink™ Personal Locator Beacon will transmit for around 35 hours, although this may last longer with higher ambient temperatures.
Note that vessels in Australia travelling more than 2nm offshore must still carry an EPIRB.
The unit costs $590 + GST and weighs just 257g with a lanyard.
