Preloved: Princess V39
FOR SALE: USED PRINCESS V39
After its launch in 2011, the Princess V39 was crowned at the IPC Marine Media’s Motor Boat of the Year Awards with the title of ‘Motor Boat of the Year’ for Sportscruisers up to 45 feet — a great endorsement for a well-loved model that’s been through much transition.
The first of the original V39s was actually launched back in 1994 with successive upgrades in the V40 and V42 excelling in sales popularity with a successful 15-year production run. However, continual upgrades and international competition created the need for a full rethink on the V39, culminating in the new model’s release in 2011.
The V39 MKII set new standards in design, layout and quality, plus it created a visual treat in a timeless-yet-sporty aquatic capsule. She’s just the right size to provide a comfortable dayboat that can host a party or perhaps an extended holiday maker with the offshore capability to skip from port to port on a run in search of fresh horizons.
With Volvo D6 330HP and duo prop legs she will give thrilling performance as a sports boat. It combines a variable deadrise hull with deep-V entry dropping back to 21 degrees in the mid-section and back to 15 degrees at the transom, allowing a great combination of lift, performance, soft entry and stability at rest with its 12ft-5in beam. All test results in optimal conditions quote the Wide Open Throttle at a brisk 37 knots with minimal bow lift and a terrific attitude, while she will cruise at a speedy and more efficient 30 knots and 3,000rpm. The enormous bight of the duoprop drives combined with a bow thruster means you won’t be afraid of tight moorings or low speed maneuverability even if boating single handed.
FIT FOR A PRINCESS
In my eyes, this Princess V39 is simply drop-dead gorgeous. It has a prestigious yet inviting layout with terrific flow and appeal. Overhead is a large sliding sunroof allowing her to be opened as a runabout or, if the southern chill factor rears its head, close her up and clip on the rear enclosures. There’s a hydraulic rear platform that sets the stage for water sports, plus a small garage at the rear that will house the outboard for the tender and more.
Entering from the platform, there is a small staircase on either side with the port side leading straight to the walkaround to the bow, and the starboard enticing you into the lush cockpit where inviting teak trim awaits. There’s an L-shaped dinette and rear lounge for outdoor entertaining and an outdoor wet bar with electric griddle, sink, fridge and storage opposite. The helm is simply stunning with more of a sports car appeal than a luxury cruiser, plus twin deluxe leather helmsman and navigator chairs. Opposite is the perfect spot for a cocktail on the chez-lounge. The vision, presentation, layout, workmanship and textures are to die for!
Downstairs reveals another level of luxury and appointment. There’s a fully-appointed galley with large convertible dinette made feel more expansive with a large skylight reducing any lower deck nautical feel. Matte cherry cabinetry, a backlit bar, high quality vinyl linings, premium benchtops, glass splash-backs and soft leather invite maximized comfort.
Up front is the master stateroom with full-size island bed, full head height and yet again an open and bright feel emphasised by beautiful high-end trim plus plenty of storage and mood lighting. The mid-mounted bathroom matches the convenience and presentation of the rest of the craft: a full-size shower, vanity and head with plenty of mirror and maximised natural light are packed in.
