1995 14.6m Cougar Cat For Sale
Now here’s something you don’t see every day! This is a fully surveyed 14.6m Cougar Cat that would make a terrific passenger ferry, whale watching, eco tour, dive boat, or maybe even a refit as a large private vessel.
She is highly suited to shallow water such as rivers and lakes, or getting in close on reef excursions due to her very shallow draft from the Hamilton Jet drives. In fact you can even beach her for even greater function and attraction.
Named the Tuna Explorer she currently lies in South Australia’s Port Lincoln where she operated as a ferry for the tuna dive operations, but was replaced with a larger vessel, making her redundant. While she is currently in 2C survey in South Australia she has been built to and maintained in 1C survey for Queensland, Victoria and South Australia for previous commercial ventures. With a fast top speed of 23kts (unloaded) and around 18kts with a full complement, the Tuna Explorer is perfect as a fast ferry and tourism vessel to get you there and back quickly in either offshore or sheltered waters.
The Tuna Explorer is powered by twin Volvo TAMD 122P six-cylinder turbo-diesels with 1800lt fuel capacity, coupled to 291 Hamilton Jet Units designed for incredible manoeuvrability and silent operation around whales and dolphins.
She provides executive-grade lush upholstered seating for up to 53 passengers inshore and is surveyed for 41 pax and three crew under 1E survey, and there are individual male and female toilets for passenger comfort.
The Tuna Explorer is a terrific viewing platform from either the upper or lower levels, and the main windows in the lower cabin open out to the sea on both sides for uninterrupted line of sight. There is a small shop for point of sale material or as a crewing station, and easy access via safe stairwells to the upper level. The Tuna Explorer also provides undercover seating for inclement conditions, but there is a framework upstairs that could easily be adapted for more outdoor facility.
The fully enclosed upper helm allows unrestricted visibility to around 270 degrees and there is full CCTV surveillance for the entire boat.
Instruments include Raymarine 54E VHF radio, Furuno GP700F Colour Plotter/GPS/Sounder, Furuno 1721 radar, a new TOA PA system, 24V and 240V AC/DC, and recent improvements include a new structural fire protection and smothering system, two new turbos, new bilge systems, fully refurbished jet units, new cockpit carpet, fully repainted inside and a complete respray above the gunwale line. Additional equipment includes two new high-holding anchors, Muir anchor winch and chains and ropes to suit.
The Tuna Explorer presents a terrific opportunity for a new commercial tourism venture, or a great alternative as an upgrade to a growing business.
