FOR SALE: MUMMERY MILLENNIUM 55 NIMBUS II
A desire to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life led this yacht’s current owners to begin their search for a bluewater cruising yacht. Packing an extensive wish list, they scoured the global market as far afield as Canada, looking for a safe yacht they could easily handle together, which would sail well and take them comfortably to new places. They discovered something that exceeded their expectations and soon they were off on the vessel that would take them to see the world. Built from aluminium, like many of the bigger superyachts coming out of Auckland, Nimbus II is a fine example of Kiwi quality. Aluminium is an excellent hull material, with a better strength-to-weight ratio than fibreglass and more flexibility with design than can be accomplished in steel.
This boat is for sale here.
The owner came from an engineering background, so he had high expectations, and while very satisfied with the yacht’s high quality construction, he also wanted a vessel that was easy to sail shorthanded. The powered winches have foot operated buttons, freeing both hands to operate the sheets or halyards. The autopilot can be set to the apparent wind angle, allowing the mainsail to be raised by one person from the cockpit. The head sails can also be trimmed on the electric primary winches and furled electrically. The helm position has good access to all the sheets and is protected from the sun by an insulated hardtop. But when the weather gets unpleasant, why rough it outside on long passages when there is another option?
Protected from the elements, the lower helm in the saloon has excellent vision and is filled with light. This saloon retains pleasing proportions to the yacht’s shape and the windows are set low enough to allow good seated viewing from both the helm and the saloon itself.
Another cruising comfort is the full beam master cabin aft, with an island bed. It features good hanging storage, en suite, air-conditioning, flat screen television, two extra sea berths and a chart table. This luxuriously appointed owner’s accommodation is complemented by the adaptable cabin forward. With its own shower and head, this cabin lends itself to all visitors, whether it’s a couple or a family of four, with a double to port, single bunk above and another separate single to starboard.
Between the forward cabin and the deck saloon is the full-beam galley with clever features that make food preparation feasible under sail. Deep twin sinks, a high lip on the bench and even harness points for staying in place on a port tack make it all possible. There’s impressive refrigeration, consisting of a wide top-opening stainless steel chest freezer and vertical front-opening stainless fridge. With the ability to carry extensive supplies and a comprehensive list of equipment, many of the tasks that can lead you to shore are catered for on Nimbus II . Laundry can be washed on board, weather checked, emails sent, water can be made and the 1700lt fuel tank with fuel polishing unit can go long periods between drinks.
The engine room houses a low-revving 80hp Cummins 3.9lt four-cylinder engine with a PTO running the hydraulic windlass. A huge 70Amp auxiliary alternator charges the 24V house bank when the engine is running. A Northern Lights 6Kva generator provides additional charging through the 4kw inverter/charger to the 840amp/hr battery bank. On board, it’s all LED lighting, including the navigation lights installed a couple of years ago, so the running of the generator should only be required for short periods to top up the batteries and bring down the refrigeration temperature at anchor.
This is a very well built and safe yacht with a comprehensive list of equipment. It has been kept to the highest standards and is always ready to be used. A superb Awlgrip paint job was completed in 2011 and she looks fantastic. Fully serviced at the end of last year and well maintained, Nimbus II really only requires a bag of clothes and a trip to the supermarket to start the next adventure.
