1997 DYNA 58 FOR SALE

FOR SALE: DYNA 58

Dyna Yachts was established in Tainan City, Taiwan in 1986 and by 1997, when Joint Venture was launched, the company had developed a reputation for building luxurious craft with quality craftsmanship and excellent seagoing ability. Dynas have often been described as one of the best value propositions in luxury boating.

The co-owners purchased the 58ft flybridge cruiser eight years ago when they saw an opportunity for their families to spend time on the water. For the first five years of ownership they cruised the waters of Victoria’s Port Phillip Bay. However, because they live near the bay, they found that they were only using the boat as a daytime cruiser, sharing the fun with up to 30 guests at a time.

They decided that to get better use of the boat they would move it away from home base. It now lies in Sydney Harbour and Joint Venture has become a holiday home where the families spend up to a week at a time on the picturesque waterway.

Co-owner Peter reported he was delighted with the boat’s smooth sea-handling on the voyage along the coast to Sydney and was also pleased with the 18kt and 160lt/h averages for the trip.

The Dyna is powered by twin 781hp MTU diesels that have clocked 1200 hours and run through reliable ZF gearboxes. Peter told me the same MTU mechanic has meticulously maintained them since new. Cruising speed is around 22kts and the boat is capable of an impressive top end of 30kts. With a 3000lt fuel tank and 1000lt of water the boat has a decent cruising range and extended liveaboard capability.

In the hands of the current owners the boat has undergone a complete makeover, thanks to Peter’s interior designer wife. The result is a stylish, modern interior with a nautical theme and traditional timber paneling.

Along with cosmetic touches inside, there have been significant upgrades to the electronics with two Raymarine E series screens for GPS and sounder as well as new Raymarine radar. Batteries have also been replaced recently as has the exhaust system, while to facilitate docking 15hp bow and stern thrusters with remote control have been added.

As well as being a capable cruiser, this Dyna is set up for entertaining and as mentioned, up to 30 guests can be feted on board with three distinct areas around the boat. A more intimate group of ten can make themselves at home at the spacious saloon dining table while there is room in the flybridge for 15 crew to lounge and mingle in comfort.

There is yet another lounging space in the cockpit which also has a generous sunbaking area on the extended transom.

Cooks will be pleased to see the galley on the same level as the saloon allowing them to be part of the action. Appliances are quality Miele products and include a hotplate and microwave but for outdoor cooking there is a new stainless steel barbecue at the transom.

Keeping the drinks cold onboard is important and happily refrigeration is conveniently located in the cockpit, the flybridge and twin fridge-freezers in the galley. Four air-conditioners keep things cool in cabins and the saloon and music plays through two separate Bose systems.

In keeping with the luxury appointments of Dynas, the accommodation is stylish and roomy. The master stateroom is full-width and includes its own lounging area and well-appointed en suite as well as a walkaround queen-size bed. It offers a quiet place for the owners to get away from the madding crowd and would be an ideal place to conduct business away from the office.

Both guest cabins have twin beds and individual en suites – one of which doubles for day use – and all cabins have their own television. The helm commands excellent vision from its forward position in the flybridge – enclosed with clears – all of which have been recently replaced.

The tender is a new Brig 3.3m fitted with a 20hp Honda four-stroke engine and should offer years of service.

Joint Venture is on the market for $550,000 comparing favourably with a reported replacement cost of the new model approaching $2.3m.
