The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in partnership with the Rolex Sydney Hobart yacht race has become an authority on world yacht racing, ensuring the highest standards for yacht race entry, sea safety, and communications. The Australian Cruising Yacht Club boasts a string of ocean yacht racing accomplishments, being victorious in the America's Cup, Admiral's Cup, One Ton Cup, Kenwood Cup, the Fastnet Race, and the BOC Challenge solo around the world yacht race.

Included among the crew members on board each ofthe six Volvo Open 70s were world champions, America's Cup yacht race winner, and Olympic gold medallists.
Sailors from 15 nations, including New Zealand, Australia,France, Spain, United States, Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa,Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Norway, Brazil, China andBelgium competed in this 2011-12 round the world yacht race.
