PRE-LOVED BOATS - Caribbean 40 cruiser

"Oh no, it’s not my first Caribbean, it’s my third,” explained the bloke on the end of the phone. “Yeah, I bought a 40 first up, then a 35 and then this new 40,” he offered.

“So you quite like Caribbeans then?” I replied. I mean what else could you say?

In truth I wasn’t that surprised. I’ve heard the story before.
Once you join the Caribbean club it is very hard to justify leaving.

It’s also great to see one so well maintained — nothing but professional servicing by the book, from day one.

And that’s the way it has to be if you want reliable performance when it matters — such as when you get 12 marlin bites in a day and tag four to lead the Port Stephens Interclub Tournament on day one, or when you cruise up to the Gold Coast and back for a little on-the-water R&R. This conversation was making me envious...

But I had to hand it to him, if the images hereabouts are anything to go by this is a well set-up boat in what appears to be perfect condition, and anyone who puts that kind of effort in gets my respect. Seems a shame to sell it. Perhaps he’ll buy a 49…

Originally reviewed in Trade-a-Boat by David Lockwood in 2008

“Last but not least, the Caribbean 40 turns well and not off its bow like some of its competitors. In fact, there wasn’t a drop of spray on the clears after our circuit work in windy conditions where, at times, we cruised at 27 to 28kts at 2400rpm.”
