Size is everything on the imposing motoryacht Capricorn Dancer

. A Johnson 75 Skylounge, the big dimensions of this 75-footer equate to greater interior volume, which the boat’s designers have focused on to create individual privacy options for the owner and family — everyone can find their own space, while professional crew can move about without interrupting those onboard. And all this without the compromise in handling, in fact her systems are so good a couple can easily manage this craft.

The layout of this enclosed flybridge motoryacht is such that the owners can seal themselves away in the sumptuous saloon, a sliding door closing off the forward galley and dinette area, where a staircase leads below to the accommodation deck, and another nearby rises to the Skylounge. From the flybridge a second staircase aft accesses the cockpit, meaning crew can get below or to their two-berth cabin with bathroom through the transom, or younger family members can move about without creating a disturbance for those back in the saloon. She is all about finding
personal space.

Capricorn Dancer was launched in 2009 by Johnson Motor Yachts, in Taiwan’s premier boatbuilding city of Kaohsiung, and is one of only two of that particular model currently available on the second-hand market in Australia. She was sold new to her current Pittwater owners for family use only and they now wish to downsize and will consider trading.

In 2010, she travelled to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef, but has been sparingly used overall, with only 420 hours logged on her twin 1400hp Caterpillar 3412 turbo-diesels.

The motoryacht’s vendor Andrew Moore, from the eponymous brokerage at Sydney’s Royal Motor Yacht Club on Pittwater, Newport, was not short of superlatives in describing Capricorn Dancer to Trade-a-Boat. A“beautiful looking boat” and “luxurious” liveaboard, he says, also making mention of the “massive” 6.3m beam, walkaround teak decks, one-level living layout, “magnificent” four-cabin four-bathroom accommodation (plus crew cabin), and the enclosed Skylounge for all-weather cruising.

Despite her size, Moore regards the Johnson 75 Skylounge as a motoryacht capable of and equipped to be safely handled by a couple, but with a dedicated crew cabin and the other reasons mentioned above, not-so-adventurous owners have the option of hiring professional help. The flybridge helm has Furuno’s electronics and navigation package, plus controls for the hydraulic bow and stern thrusters and stabilisers. Below are port and starboard cockpit docking stations situated in the wings of the saloon aft bulkhead, a boon for shorthanded crew.

Presented in as-new condition, the cherrywood interior is complemented by marble and teak flooring, cream leather the choice for furnishings. The main saloon has two lounges, club chair and table to port opposite a high-gloss cabinet with pop-up TV.

Air-conditioning extends throughout and the motoryacht’s four staterooms, dominated by the full-beam master, allows eight people to retire in the lap of luxury. The crew cabin adds accommodation for two more guests, or errant children.

Up top the flybridge extension provides cover for the cockpit and houses the 750kg hydraulic crane for launching the nearby sporty 13 AB RIB with Evinrude E-TEC 50.

Nothing is wanting on Capricorn Dancer as the ideal luxury liveaboard, and more so as a far-reaching passagemaker. Her 6000lt-plus fuel tankage, 378lt water supply supplemented by a watermaker, decent 22.5kW Onan genset, as well as Miele laundry and Vacuumaid, allow her owners to remain offshore for weeks away from dock. An 18-knot cruise will devour the sea miles, and a top speed of 23kts is available if required.
