Most people move through their lives with a dream of adventure in the back of their mind — a Pacific island, the Great Barrier Reef, the Kimberley or farther afield into the Seven Seas. The only niggling problem is being stuck below decks with no view, or up on deck in hideous weather, rain coursing down your neck and into your wet-weather gear. Not quite the fantasy one expected!

It only takes a few seconds aboard to quickly determine that these enterprising Dutchmen have contemplated and solved virtually every need for the cruising sailor.

Andiamo!’s sophisticated furling and self-tacking rig allows large amounts of sail to be almost effortlessly hoisted and controlled, the power of which will easily have her heading to your island paradise with speed and safety.

When the wind won’t blow and the ship won’t go, a trusty and powerful 140hp Yanmar diesel will have you swiftly at 8kts, overtaking the languishing hoi polloi, 900lt providing a long range.

Then when Mother Nature turns on a mood, you may very comfortably retreat to the pilothouse helm station with panoramic vision and continue onwards, your magazine, book or iPad immune to the deluge outside. Indeed, for comfort and sophisticated passagemaking, it seems quite impossible to pass by the Buizen.

EVERGREEN DESIGN
The crisp styling has evolved from the Zeston range, first developed in 1983, and the Buizen 48 was drawn to deal with everything learned from the first effort. Naval architect Paul Stanyon should be commended for a styling and performance design that still remains fresh from its debut 21 years ago. Buizen yachts, either the 48 or 40, have spirited their crews around the globe, and have found a very loyal following from those, both young and old, who love sailing but are not too fussed about getting wet.

With a Dutch heritage, it is hardly surprising that Eddie and Fritz completely lifted the bar above their competition in terms of quality and finish. It is all about instructions, and the finished product shows that some very beady eyes have been involved in the build process.

Andiamo! was the first to feature the weight saving balsa-cored fibreglass construction, as well as a significantly more sophisticated rig. The traditional teak interior is both stylish and contemporary, the layout comfortably sleeping seven in four cabins, with owner’s cabin and en suite in the bow, and another head and shower for guests. A midship cabin offers upper and lower berths, the port aft cabin is a slide-in double, with a single berth and office aft to starboard.

The main saloon features a large dinette and table to port, with a dedicated helm and pilot seat to starboard and a small sofa aft. The laminated wraparound windscreen and windows with teak mullions present a splendid view while sailing, motoring or when moored in your idyllic destination of choice. Various deck hatches and portholes keep the breezes wafting through.

The huge galley is split-level to the saloon, enjoying all the pleasure of the panoramic windscreens and conversation with the guests in the saloon, without impeding the cabin with a shabby chef! There are voluminous storage opportunities, good-capacity eutectic fridge and separate freezer, and a Broadwater gas stove-oven combination. The barbecue is mounted aft in the cockpit. One will hardly be doling out William Bligh rations, and thanks to the high-capacity watermaker and hot water supply your long leisurely showers will not be interrupted either.

ELECTRIC DREAMS
In keeping with the comfort theme, the 7kW Onan generator and Mastervolt inverter provides all the pleasures of normal domestic life; fresh sheets and towels spring from the washer/dryer. Can’t sleep in the Kimberley heat? Turn on the reverse cycle air-conditioning and bunk fans. Perhaps a movie after dinner?

Want to go exploring? Just lower the six-man Avon tender from the davits, three steps down to the swimming platform and you’re away. It is a beautifully conceived package, which will spirit you away to all sorts of exciting adventures.

Those who fret about navigation can enjoy the Raymarine package of 48nm radar, forward-scanning sonar, GPS chartplotters and VHF/HF radio systems, many duplicated at both stations. Docking is assisted by a Side Power bowthruster. The cockpit station also features teak seating and deck, a folding table and aft pushpit seats to sit back and watch the world slide by. A large bimini-style canopy will shield you from the harsh sun and occasional inclemency. The stainless steel barbecue will deliver your finest efforts right to the table, the salads, cheese and wines already in situ for six comfortable guests. It really is light years away from the standard sailing adventure.

Far from just a dreamtime sales pitch, Andiamo! has already achieved all these adventures for the current owners.
