Boat of the Month EXTRA - Vitech 55 Kurad

Kurad is a 1990-model Vitech 55 cockpit yachtfisher, ideal as a family weekender, liveaboard or a capable boat to cruise and fish the Reef.

Over the past

six years it has had two owners, both families with young children, and for the last two years has been moored at either Pittwater or Sydney Harbour. Both sets of owners have refurbished the boat completely and made extensive upgrades during that time — the result is said to be stunning.

The current owners have purchased a larger boat and have priced their Vitech 55 at a low $395,000. Vendor, Andrew Moore Marine (Newport, Sydney) claimed that more than the asking price has been spent on improvements alone.

Among the improvements, the three-level Kurad, with flybridge, sundeck and the lower saloon and accommodation deck, has been completely resprayed in Awlgrip white. It’s been re-trimmed, too, including new cover clears, deck carpets, flybridge trim and navy leather saloon lounge and dinette. Completing the look are blue and white underwater lights fitted to the transom as well.

Accommodation spans two cabins with four berths forward and an owners double aft, both rooms have custom latex mattresses. There’s Cruiseair reverse cycle air-conditioning and the dinette adds to lodgings converting into a double. Two bathrooms both have updated tapware and newer toilets.

Three TVs are spread through the boat, including a 42in plasma in the saloon and all the interior timberwork has been refinished in gloss, while flooring is teak and ash throughout. Galley appliances have been updated and both fridges recently replaced.

The engineroom is described as being immaculate and houses twin 550 Detroit diesels with 1200 hours on the clock. There's a Xantrex battery charger and dripless shaft seals. A new whisper-quiet 10.6kVa genset was fitted early last year and has an underwater exhaust.

Among other additions are Side-Power bow and stern thrusters and a 400kg Fleet-Hoydrol hydraulically operated submersible swimplatform, ideal for to lifting a sports tender or jetski.
