The Horizon Yachts RP120 (Raised Pilothouse) is bound to make an impression at the 2016 Taiwan Boat

BOAT REVIEW - HORIZON YACHTS RP120

In 2015 we reviewed the only RP (Raised Pilothouse) 110 from Horizon Yachts to make it to Australia. Since then, Horizon Yachts has gone further with its all-new RP120.

Horizon hasn’t simply added length to the imposing Horizon 110 – the beam is stretched to more than 7.6m and globally renowned designers helped redefine the exterior presence and interior elegance.

US designer JC Esponosa was instrumental in penning the lines and hull profile of the RP120, which will be officially launched at the Taiwan Boat Show in March. Visually, little carries over from the Horizon Yachts RP110, the side profile loses the Horizon 110’s flying buttresses aft of the main salon, while the sun pad/dinette up front includes a larger and more functional day lounge. Below the waterline, a more hydrodynamic hull will wring more efficiency and performance from the twin 1900hp C32A Caterpillar engines.

Horizon turned to acclaimed Italian designer Luca Dini for the RP120’s interior. The result is a clear European feel, with mirrored highlights and recessed lighting accentuating the service areas and drawing attention to design highlights. Breeze oak is the primary wood and from the images we have seen, works well with the use of soft grey, brown and pale blue tones to stimulate a feeling of togetherness with the ocean environment.

The Horizon Yachts RP120 features five ensuite staterooms, with numerous indoor spaces for entertaining both day and night. The main salon incorporates a custom bar and the formal dining area comfortably seats 10 guests, while a fully equipped galley and large storage area ensure cruising trips will always be well-provisioned.

Forward on the main deck, the master stateroom includes a king-size bed, walk-in closet, and a full-beam master head just a few steps along. Below deck, four guest staterooms are split between two mirrored VIP staterooms and two twin-guest staterooms.

No doubt the excellent service from local agents Horizon Motor Yachts Australia will afford prospective buyers some freedom to personalise details. We’d take ours with upgraded deck amenities for outdoor evening entertaining – after all you can never have too much ice.
