Boat Review - Horizon FD85 Fast Displacement motor yacht
Dubbed the Horizon FD85 ‘Fast Displacement’ motor yacht, the new boat includes an ultra-modern vertical bow and economical ‘fast cruise’ mode.
The Horizon Yachts Taiwan factory has just completed the critical hull and deck joint at its Kaohsiung yard and the new model is expected to be ready for next year’s Taiwan Boat Show in March.
The contemporary lines of this yacht’s bow section translate to 25 per cent more hull volume for living spaces, where owners and guests will enjoy five en suite cabins, including a full-beam master stateroom.
In another first for Horizon Yachts, the main saloon and dining room incorporate floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a feature that is also carried into the master cabin for expansive views and natural light. Designer Cor D. Rover focused on functional entertaining spaces when looking at the FD85’s alfresco areas. An abundance of aft deck space meets a flybridge helm, full bar, two dinettes, and a hot tub on the upper deck.
“For the new Horizon FD85, we specifically chose to focus on a hull form that affords flexible cruise speeds without compromising performance,” said Horizon Yachts CEO John Lu.
The hull is designed to provide maximum efficiency at a slow cruise of 10kts, with a pair of CAT C18 1135hp engines providing enough punch to achieve fast cruise speeds of 16kts as required.
Below decks, a 10,200lt fuel tank will enable global cruising, so expect to see this new reaking Horizon yacht in a bay near you soon.
