New boats: CNB Bordeaux 60 sailing yacht
A 60ft boat is a decent-sized sailing yacht in most sailors’ language but when it comes to French luxury brand CNB Yachts, this size is the baby in an impressive fleet of semi and fully custom predominantly sailboats in the superyacht league.
As such, the CNB Bordeaux 60 blue-water cruiser is its entry-level sailing yacht. Melbourne will soon be home to two of these slick French yachts, with both based at Sandringham Yacht Club.
According to the pair’s Australian importer, Sundance Marine, the boats are proof of a growing local interest in CNB sailing boats.
Regarded for exceptional quality, CNB was founded in 1987 and became part of the French boatbuilding giant Beneteau Group in 1992. The Bordeaux-based yard builds two semi-custom models, the CNB Bordeaux 60 mentioned here, and the CNB 76. The builder’s custom line produces a variety of sail and power superyachts to 180ft, as well as sister yard Lagoon’s catamarans above 50ft.
The Group’s regular Beneteau, Jeanneau and CNB designer, naval architect Philippe Briand, penned the Bordeaux 60, first launched in 2008, with the interior by Hugon Couedel Design.
Sundance Marine’s David Beck tells us CNB Yachts are a brand designed for “lovers of elegant, fast, seaworthy and safe yachts” and each CNB Bordeaux 60 is the fruit of a personalised relationship between the owner and the shipyard.
Both CNB Bordeaux 60s are due to arrive in Australia shortly, with plans for them to travel north to the Hamilton Island Race Week in August 2015.
CNB offers four interior layouts, the two Melbourne-bound yachts sharing the same plan of a forward owner’s cabin with bed to port and separate full-beam en suite ahead, and two double berth cabins aft.
Interestingly, the spacious forepeak sail locker can be configured in a variety of ways too, as a crew or children’s cabin with top-and-bottom bunks including separate head, as a double berth, or a workshop.
CNB Bordeaux 60 price: $2.1 million base price landed in Australia.
