Mercury Marine has fired the latest shot in the hotly contested mid-range four-stroke category, with the release of the new Mercury 135hp FourStroke EFI outboard.

Designed specifically to meet feedback from Australian and New Zealand customers and dealers, Mercury says the compact 135 will deliver “tremendous performance and outstanding fuel efficiency.”

Mercury Marine ANZP director of engines and marketing Nicholas Webb said Mercury engine fans loved the new-generation high cubic capacity FourStroke engine range and asked for the same technology to fit to 135 and 140hp-rated boat transoms.

“Customers are definitely going to be impressed by the refinement and performance characteristics of this engine,” Webb said.

The new Mercury 135 has a 3.0lt four-cylinder in-line configuration, with low weight and a maintenance-free valve train for life.

The 12.5cm gearcase housing is built to handle higher horsepower, but ultra-efficient hydrodynamics ensure this larger housing doesn’t increase drag.

A reworked mount system sees the mounts located farther from the powerhead which significantly reduces mount temperature and significantly increases durability.

When rigged, the new Mercury 135hp FourStroke EFI outboard motor can be matched with the full suite of Mercury SmartCraft gauges and the Mercury BigTiller system.
