Moody 54 Deck Saloon
Earlier this year, as I approached the Sydney International Boat Show gates, I was told by my guide for the day “that will be the boat of the show” while pointing out the Moody 54 Deck Saloon sailboat. If the crowd flocking in and around her were anything to go by, he was right.
The Moody 54 DS is near the top of the range for Moody, with only the 62 above, and is designed and laid out to be an entertainer’s paradise, while oceangoing credentials enable her to be sailed solo.
Team Windcraft’s Peter Hrones has again had a big hand in the final design and layout of the Moody 54 DS. Peter’s touch is seen throughout with an entertaining and friendly one-level layout, and four separate cabins accessed via two staircases.
Boasting a CE Certificate A (Ocean) the Moody 54 Deck Saloon is a true open-ocean adventurer, and with self-tacking headsail and electric in-mast furling it is capable of being sailed solo.
Some of the small details that stood out to me were the well thought-out cabinetry in the galley and innovative cockpit layout complete with an adaptable table arrangement that could easily cater eight or more people in real comfort. The dual helms are well laid out with carbon accents adding a sporting feel, while the teak and stainless steel touches add class to the outstanding lines and finish seen from stem to stern.
