NEW ENGINES - Volvo Penta V8-380
“Lighter, cleaner, faster, stronger and with a world-class power/weight ratio,” is how Sweden’s Volvo Penta described its newly launched V8-380 sterndrive petrol engine.
The manufacturer says the new-generation state-of-the-art 380hp V8 marine engine is “loaded” with new technology and performance and easily meets EPA’s new Tier 3 emission requirements.
“The result of several years of intense development work has resulted in a real technological leap forward in the field of marine petrol engines,” said Volvo Penta.
Of note, the V8-380’s compact size means the motor is claimed to weigh-in around 100kg less than any other in its class for a competitive power/weight ratio. Volvo added the new engine is heavy-duty, fuel- and oil-efficient and achieved substantially lower emissions thanks to a new catalytic converter.
The engine is also equipped with VVT (Variable Valve Timing) technology, which optimises torque at low RPMs while maximising the power output at high revs “resulting in faster acceleration, increased top speed and smoother, better response in the mid-range”.
EASY INSTALLATION
“The V8-380 has a protected exhaust system made of aluminium to lower the weight, and the exhaust flow has been optimised to achieve the highest possible levels of performance. The engine and the exhaust system are cooled, as standard, with glycol,” said the Volvo Penta press release.
“On top of all these performance improvements and updates, the engine is — like all Volvo Penta gasoline engines — fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s EVC electronic platform. The V8-380 is also easy to install and follows the latest design principles specially developed for the Volvo Penta gasoline engine range,” it concluded.
