EVENTS - Variety Splash 2012

Celebrating its fifth year, Variety Splash 2012 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, organisers said, with a record fund-raising target of more than $100,000.

The three-day event runs from Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, February 26, some 20 boats with more than 300 participants cruising Port Phillip and Corio bays.

The itinerary includes stop-offs at some of Victoria's best yacht clubs and marinas, including Sandringham Yacht Club, Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Queenscliff Harbour, and Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. The fun-filled adventure is open to power and sail boats of all shapes and sizes.

The Variety Splash is an annual affair similar to Variety Bash, where the focus is all about having fun on the water. As with all Variety events, the primary objective of Splash is to raise much-needed funds to help empower Victorian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn.

“We are really excited about the preparations for the Fifth Variety Splash,” said event manager Jav Greaves. “With more sail and power boats entered and corporate sponsorship from Watters Electrical, Club Marine, and Procaffe among others, we are well on our way to exceeding our fundraising target for Variety.”

Jo Arrowsmith, mother of William one of Variety’s special HeartKids who has been lucky enough to take part in two Variety Splash events, said: “It is such an important thing for so many different people and also for William who will require several major heart surgeries through his life; it is a nice way to get out and forget about those things such as hospital visits and tests.”

To get involved in the Variety Splash all you need is a team of friends willing to raise funds and have three days of fun on the water.
