NEWS - "Serial hybrid" motor released

Sydney International Boat Show 2011 will see the Australian release by STEYR Motors of its new Serial Hybrid Propulsion System.

The STEYR Motors "Serial Hybrid" reportedly acts as a compact Genset. It combines a STEYR Motors diesel engine with a Permanent Magnet generator.

The core of the Genset is a newly developed horizontal, 2 cylinder, parallel, twin marine diesel engine with 25 kW and equipped with a STEYR Motors patented mass balancing system.

Developed in conjunction with Mastervolt, the STEYR Motors describes their Serial Hybrid as "a compact, intelligent power station with generator, inverter, three-step battery charger and shore power hub all rolled into one."

Its small size and light weight will be handy on the boat.

The Serial Hybrid will be on display at the STEYR Motors Australia stand at the Sydney International Boat Show July 28- August 1, Stand 206b.
