EVENTS - Variety set for biggest Splash yet!
Victorian Boaters are getting ready to steer a course around Port Phillip Bay early next years and raise money for special needs and disadvantaged children as part of the fourth annual Variety Splash.
The three-day boat rally next February will follow a new course in 2011 to cater for growing participation, with boats heading off from Docklands, stopping off at Queenscliff and Mornington before heading to the grand finale at Sandringham.
“The new route will contain the same level of festivities and fun – with a few new adventurous activities thrown in along the way,” said Variety Victoria events manager, Janette Connolly.
The Variety Splash, similar in style to the Variety Bash car rally, has its focus firmly placed on having fun, but as with all Variety events the primary objective is to raise money for children with a wide range of special needs.
Variety Splash is open to all sail and power boats and commences at Waterfront City, Docklands, with an evening Welcome function on Thursday, February 24. It departs the following morning to Queenscliff Harbour for an ‘on the dock’ party and an evening of fine food, entertainment and great company.
The second leg will take Splashers across the bay to Mornington Yacht Club, with a stop for lunch en route, for a disco night. The final day will be a leisurely cruise to Sandringham Yacht Club for an afternoon ‘finishing line’ barbecue.
Organisers hope to raise $150,000 for and entries are now open. Anyone interested in getting a team together and participating in the event, looking to become a sponsor, or wanting further details should contact the event manager, Jav Greaves, phone 0413 704 409 or visit www.varietysplash.org.au
