Meet three Aussie record holders at SIBS
Head to the new Sailing & Paddling Hub stage at SIBS to see three Australian record holders share their adventures.
The Sydney International Boat Show is always action-packed, but this year will be even more so with three Aussie record holders gracing the show’s new Sailing & Paddling Hub stage to speak about their various achievements, challenges and plans for their next adventures.
And who are these record holders?
First up is Michelle Lee, the only woman to row solo non-stop and unassisted across the Pacific Ocean. At sea for 237 days (almost eight months), Michelle rowed 14,000km from the coast of Mexico to the east coast of Australia. And this isn’t a first for Michelle — she had previously undertaken the same feat across the Atlantic Ocean.
And don’t miss Lisa Blair’s discussion about how she became the fastest person in the world to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around Antarctica in May 2022. Lisa is also well known for establishing a new outright record time for sailing in a monohull around Australia in 58 days, 2 hours, 25 minutes and 29 seconds, which she completed on 17 December 2018. Lisa was the first woman to complete this record. Lisa also helmed the first all-female team in 16 years in the 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on board her yacht Climate Action Now partnered with The Magenta Project.
Last, but by no means least, Sarah Davis will be hitting the stage to share her extraordinary adventures. Sarah was the first woman to lead an expedition of the river Nile, the world’s longest river. This expedition followed approximately 6850km, with 110km of rafting and 3000km of paddling, and passed through some of the world’s most beautiful terrain, from the Nile’s source in Rwanda through the finish in Egypt where the river meets the Mediterranean Sea. Head to the stage and hear how Sarah was set upon by a bloat of hippopotamuses, was arrested and detained in Burundi, ran some ridiculous lethal rapids and travelled through Sudan as the population was attempting to overthrow the government.
There will be presentations each day of the Show at the Sailing & Paddling Hub stage, so make sure you check it out.
