Experience Luxury on Water: Introducing the Maritimo S75 at SCIBS 2023
Celebrating 20 years of boat building excellence in 2023-24, Maritimo presents its grand oeuvre, the S75, one of two flagship models this year.
The culmination of 20 years of Maritimo motor yachts, and more than 60 years of boat building expertise, the largest model in the Maritimo stable – the S75 – will be unveiled at this year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show
Kicking off Maritimo’s 20th Anniversary, the Maritimo 75 Sedan launch will be centrepiece of the brand’s showcase.
“This is our largest and most sophisticated Maritimo to date,” said Managing Director and Head of Design at Maritimo, Tom Barry-Cotter.
“After two years of R&D, working with a group of Maritimo owners, we’ve put in an enormous effort to refine all the intricate parts and we’re really pleased with the response from all over the world.”
Ahead of the boating boom, in 2018-19, Maritimo invested in the adjacent property (two buildings, formerly the Mustang factory) and reconfigured their production line to accommodate the new 75-foot models.
“We have re-configured the site from R&D to production, with the addition of two Mezzanine levels and embodying the legendary Toyota ‘5 S principals’ – In Japanese, Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Systematise), Seiso (Shine), Seiketsu (Standardise), and Shitsuke (Sustain).”
According to Tom, the S75 and M75 have evoked immediate positive response from key markets, the US, Asia, NZ and Australia.
“We’re close to overtaking orders for the 70 without even getting on the water. The 75s are a natural progression for our long-range cruising motor yachts.
“The 75s comprise the three fundamentals of capabilities, capacity and comfort. They have all the sea-going functionalities of space, convenience, storage, tender launch, with 10,000L fuel capacity and generators, plus spacious accommodation and all the features of a high-end apartment on water.”
The new flagship models have attracted loyal Maritimo owners and newcomers to the brand, all citing the spacious open plan and four-cabin layout plus utility room/crew cabin layout as defining features that appealed most to them.
The consummate design of the profile and deck spaces was also high on their lists of reasons to buy. One couple plans to add a 380 Sealegs amphibious tender craft to their Adventure Deck, among an array of water toys and equipment that can be stored on this expansive deck area.
They were unanimous in their choice of Maritimo above other marques with motor yachts of similar size, convinced by the Australian brand’s quality and boat building expertise, offshore racing pedigree and their access to the management team during every step of the build process.
Australian and New Zealand S75 and M75 owners told Maritimo they are looking forward to itineraries as far afield as New Zealand, the Whitsundays, Fiji, Noumea and Indonesia, confident of their vessels’ blue water, long-range cruising capability.
Such is the demand for Maritimo models across the range, the company’s facility at Hope Harbour has been equipped to handle all after-market services under the banner of “Maritimo One”, allowing owners to tailor their vessel to their specific needs, thus reducing pressure on the main production line at Maritimo’s Coomera headquarters.
“This will help production flow,” stated Tom. “We’ve reviewed all our processes and established an additional production line at Coomera, and in order to handle any retrofit or custom jobs, we will direct those boats to Hope Harbour to ensure the main production line is not impacted.”
He explained, “Production stretches out to Q4 2025. We’ve doubled the business in the past couple of years. Our focus now is on staff recruitment, retention, training, attracting skilled trades, labour and apprentices across the board – laminators, cabinet makers, fit-out, engineers, and we are ramping up R&D for new models.”
For the next generation of larger Maritimo models, the company has chosen to work with suppliers of the calibre of MTU, a Rolls-Royce brand.
“For the 75s, we needed to source larger engine options,” said Tom. “MTU engines are tough, durable and share many of Maritimo’s engineering principles.
“MTU has a very cost-effective service program and an established national network. Importantly, MTU has key values in common with Maritimo.
“Roger Penske [head of Penske Australia and NZ, the exclusive distributor of MTU] sent a personal letter to Bill Barry-Cotter to welcome us to their network. Interestingly, Bill and Roger met some 30 years ago and since then, have a bond based on mutual respect.”
The equally impressive M75 flybridge model will not make the deadline for SCIBS 2023. The more complex model is undergoing final finishes at the Maritimo factory and interested parties will be able to inspect the flybridge flagship model during the boat show. To relish its own moment in the spotlight, the M75 will be showcased at an unveiling ceremony in July.
On display on-water at SCIBS will be the S75 complemented by the M55 and S55 Motor Yachts, the M600 and S600 Offshore Series, and the M60 Motor Yacht.
Maritimo’s Australian dealers will attend, as will Derrick Nowak – who has 30 years’ experience in the marine industry in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific – representing global dealers.
Capping the launch of the largest model to date, Maritimo will commence the brand’s 20th anniversary celebrations at SCIBS 2023.
“Maritmo was founded in 2003 and the first 60 launched in 2004, so we’re celebrating over 12 months, starting with SCIBS 2023,” Tom said.
As for the progression into larger models beyond the 75-foot mark, Tom was quick to respond that the 75 models are their focus for now.
“We are committed to our core models for now. Once the 75s have attracted a strong owner base, we will consider larger models as somewhere for them to move into. There are some designs you could consider ‘left field’ that are on the drawing board, but they will progress when we’ve read the market trends and where they’re heading.”
